Watch of the Month – N°02
A piece of history. And very chic –
Our second Watch of the Month is also the second watch that Manfred Brassler, founder of MeisterSinger, developed for the MeisterSinger range. And of course it was named N°02 – with MeisterSinger’s typical “leading zero”.
On the front, the watch shows all the design features of our timepieces. And on the back it brings its historical heritage to the point. You do not need to be a technical expert to recognize when looking at the work: It is different than the others. The N°02 uses the Unitas caliber 6498-1, whose predecessors were once designed for pocket-watches. The strikingly large balance moves much more leisurely at 18,000 beats per hour than, for example, the N°03 or the Circularis with a frequency of 28,800. But the work is no less accurate. Robust calibres of this kind were used decades ago in chronometer-accurate pilot’s watches. As a pocket-watch movement, it is of course a hand-wound movement. Many owners of the No.02 take the watch from the arm and look through the exhibition back, as the barrel rotates while tensioning the main spring. Pretty look at the work is also otherwise; It has blued screws and the classic Geneva stripes on the plates.
Of course, the N°02 is anything but a museum piece. The factual typography and the blue sunburst match well with Denim. And a blue blazer anyway. With the single hour hand and the special movement, the watch is ideally suited for people who know how to measure their time for two reasons. At least as a second watch.
