Watch of the Month – N°01
At the beginning there was the N° 01
The first MeisterSinger watch designed by Manfred Brassler defines the basic formula of all our timepieces with features such as the two-digit hour and the pointed single-hand. But it is also about overriding principles, about simplicity, concentrating on the essentials – and about what is omitted. The art of reduction is a major theme in this Bauhaus anniversary year – reason enough for us to choose the N° 01 as our Watch of the Month.
Reduction to the essentials
The N° 01 impresses with its simplicity. First and foremost, because it has neither a minute nor a second hand and shows its owner the time in a way that suits their daily planning. The Swiss movement expects a daily manual winding ritual. And the design is also reduced to the essentials. The typography is deliberately functional without any serifs. With its printed numerals, the dial remains consistently two-dimensional like the base of a sundial. And it is not only sundials that serve as inspiration for the N° 01. The watch can be read as clearly as analogue scientific measuring instruments, old manometers or altimeters.
Subtle ivory tone
The strong design and also the classic dial color of the watch were inspired by these unadorned devices; the light ivory tone, which has been found throughout the MeisterSinger collection ever since. It does not look like a patina, nor is it antique or retro; rather it is quite simply a pleasure to behold. The soft color is more subtle than a pure, brilliant white – and can therefore be combined perfectly with all kinds of outfits. For example, the N° 01 is the perfect accessory for classic beige chinos, which adhere to the same ideal of simplicity. It is astonishing how well the watch – with the right strap – goes with a suit, a black leather jacket or even beach shorts. Because it changes its mood, but not its character. When everything non-essential is omitted, the focus is all the more firmly on the essentials.
Die N° 01 is available in ivory, opalin-white and Sunburst blue.
